Centenary Bonspiel Shines in a Week of Tradition, Talent, and Togetherness
The Royal Montreal Curling Club rolled into the new year with one of its most cherished traditions: the 2026 Centenary Bonspiel, held January 5th–11th. Thirty-two teams filled the sheets for a week-long celebration of curling’s finest values — friendship, sportsmanship, and the unmistakable camaraderie that defines our club both on and off the ice.
What began in 1907 as a commemorative event marking RMCC’s 100th anniversary has grown into a beloved annual bonspiel that continues to honour its roots. Originally created to welcome teams from other branches, the Centenary Cup has evolved into a vibrant 32‑team competition, and proudly inclusive of mixed-gender teams since 2007.
The highlight of the week came on Saturday, January 10th, when members were ceremoniously piped onto the ice and up to the lunch — a stirring tradition that never fails to electrify the club. The festivities began upstairs with an unforgettable lunch and conference featuring special guest Jamie Sinclair, known to many as “Curl up with Jamie,” the online coach who has become a favourite among RMCC curlers. Her insights, warmth, and humour made the afternoon as inspiring as it was entertaining.
The feast itself was a showstopper. Chef Julien LeBlanc and his team delivered a decadent spread, complete with towering platters of roasted meats carved by dedicated volunteer members and a stunning array of desserts that drew as many admirers as the curling shots of the week.
Throughout the bonspiel, daily meals and hospitality were made possible by the extraordinary efforts of our volunteers. Their commitment is the heartbeat of this event, and the club extends its deepest gratitude to everyone who contributed. A special thank‑you goes to Chris Kovalchuk and Anna Faraggi, whose tireless organization and leadership ensured the 2026 Centenary Bonspiel was a resounding success.
