The Grande Dame and the Grand Match will be played Saturday, November 23, 2024
The Grand Match and the Grande Dame will take place on Saturday, 23 November 2024. It is an annual tradition where men's and women's teams from all over Montreal meet on the same Saturday to play a full game of 10 ends. It is one of the largest curling competitions in terms of participation. While the Grand Match was originally a men's affair, the women are now part of the tradition, as the Grande Dame has been played on the same day and in the same format as the Grand Match since 2002. The general principle is that half the teams play at their own club, while the other half visit other clubs. The aim of the competition is to fraternise and officially start the winter season (after 5 ends, the players stack their brooms and take a short break to warm up). The games are free of charge. After the games, the host clubs offer hospitality in the form of snacks or a meal.
